This book cover was the first cover I made for Kathryn Bradley. Insignificant Others is Kathryn’s debut novel and after going back and forth with ideas, she sent me her first cover idea she had.

First, I always draw out the sketch just to see where the characters and items are placed.

In the cover for Insignificant Others, Kathryn wanted the two main characters to sit on a sofa, looking out onto New York. The characters are sitting further apart as well, since the book is enemies to lovers. After going back and forth with ideas, I thought it would be cool to make the guy have his arm kind of reaching towards the girl.

Lastly before the colouring, I add the outline. For the outline, I match the lines to the main colours of that specific part.

A Hollytree Series Novel

After the Insignificant others book cover was finished, Kathryn asked me if I wanted to create a cover for her next upcoming book, The Best Medicine. For this cover, she was very inspired by Chloe Liese’s covers for her series The Bergman Brothers, with the cartoon character covers.

A Hollytree Series Novel

After The Best Medicine cover was announced, Kathryn Bradley reached out again and asked if I would like to create the book cover for the second book in the Hollytree series. This book is based around an artist and his model, which can be seen on the cover. The cover follows the same artstyle as the first book in the series, The Best Medicine.

In the original sketch, I added a statue to even the cover out, but eventually we settled on getting rid of it and having the cat in the top corner instead.

We tried different colours for the title, but eventually landed on the dark purple colour you can see on the final cover.
